Restaurant: Lou Paleisoun in Brignoles, Frankrijk

En daar gingen we dan op een zonnige door de weekse dag buiten het toeristische seizoen om. We wilden even iets anders dan thuis lunchen en besloten naar Brignoles te gaan om daar wat te gaan eten. Nu is Brignoles zelf niet zo heel erg bijzonder. Of eigenlijk helemaal niet. Dus daar waren we snel doorheen. Een beetje rond lopend kwamen we niet echt hele spannende restaurants tegen. We hadden de moed al bijna opgegeven tot we in een straat wat verder uit het ‘centrum’ tegen restaurant Lou Paleisoun aanliepen. Er stonden slechts twee tafeltjes buiten en de eigenaar was de tafels nog aan het dekken, maar we konden er zeker een hapje eten. We moesten wel buiten zitten, want binnen was alles gereserveerd. Nou dat vonden we niet zo erg, want het zonnetje scheen lekker op het terras en dat het restaurant vol zat betekende dat het een goed lopende zaak is.

Tot onze verbazing (na Griekenland zijn we niet veel meer gewend) kregen we een prachtige kaart uitgereikt èn een wijnkaart en konden we uit een aantal menu’s kiezen of gewoon losse gerechten. Omdat we bedachten dat we toch niet heel veel uit eten zouden gaan hier, besloten we het er van te nemen. Een driegangen menu met een glaasje wijn….. Wat een verwennerij.

Het was een goede lunch (mooi geserveerd, smaken hadden van mij wat meer pit mogen hebben), veel te veel (zeker als je bedenkt dat we de afgelopen weken echt weinig hebben gegeten), zodat we de rest van de middag niets meer konden omdat we zo moe waren van al het eten.

Another review in English. Last year, by coïncidence, we found a very good restaurant in Agios Stefanos (San Stefano). Let me first describe the bay. Because for me this is the most beautiful place of Corfu. The bay is in the north eastern part of the island. From Gouvia Marina we sail across Kouloura, Kalami and Agni, three beautiful small bays with white beaches and clear blue water. Around the corner you see green mountains, pine apple trees and cypress. Once you are in the bay, you are entering a small village with some restaurants and shops. From the bay across the sea you see Albania.

The bay is small and the wind makes it sometimes difficult to find a good spot to anker. But because of the restaurant of our friend Christos, we come here on a regular base. Last year we took different groups here and they all were very happy with the food.

The restaurant looks nice and different than other greek restaurants. It’s difficult to describe what it is, it just is. When you get in to the restaurant you are welcomed by Christos or Emile and they immediately make you feel at home. Christos comes to the table to tell you all the specials on the menu and it doesn’t really matter what you take (but I suggest you take at least the aubergines with tomato sauce and cheese as a starter), everything is good. All the food comes fresh from the land and from the sea. And comes from the island itself.

A place worth visiting if you are on Corfu, either when you come with a car or by boat, both travels there are beautiful.
